Liquid Face Lift, New Jersey - New York

"The Rachael Ray show recently did a segment called "The Liquid Face Lift" and it featured a physician using Injectable Fillers (Restylane®, and Perlane®) and BOTOX® Cosmetic to restore a youthful appearance in one of his patients. The patient was around 45, and she wanted to look refreshed, but not different, with no down-time. The injections were performed behind the scenes, and in around an hour, the patient was revealed.  She was very pleased with the result.

You're probably wondering whether BOTOX® Cosmetic and Injectable Fillers really simulate the results of a surgical face lift? The answer is: yes. When patients consult me regarding facial aging and rejuvenation, I almost always offer a non-surgical approach. BOTOX® Cosmetic is excellent at smoothing frown lines, forehead lines, and crows-feet; it is also extremely effective at lifting the eyebrows.

Injectable Fillers work by restoring lost facial volume, and minimizing the appearance of wrinkles. Facial-aging occurs as a result of sun damage, gravity, and loss of facial fat. Sun damage causes decreased skin elasticity and wrinkles. Gravity causes descent of skin, fat, and muscle. On top of this, there is age-related loss of facial fat, which tends to be more pronounced in thin faces. The loss of facial fat-volume first occurs in the cheeks just below the eyelids. This accentuates the appearance of "bags" in the lower eyelids. It can also cause the eyes and temples to appear sunken, and the lips to lose their youthful fullness.

Injectable Fillers are used in two ways. I inject them superficially, directly into wrinkles to minimize their appearance. I will also inject deeper, just below the skin to replace lost facial volume. This corrects lower eyelid grooves, laugh lines, hollowed upper lids and temples, and deflated lips. If jowling is early and mild, I will also inject along the jaw-line to minimize their appearance.

In my hands, both BOTOX® Cosmetic, and Injectable Fillers are completely painless. The topical anesthetic I've been using for the past five years nearly completely numbs the skin in only 10-15 minutes. Also, there is no down time. Regular activities are resumed immediately, and minor bruising is infrequent.

When jowls are prominent, and when neck skin is hanging, I will recommend a Natural Lift. This is my version of the European MACS-Lift: a small incision, minimally invasive face lift that involves repositioning of the skin and underlying soft tissue in a purely vertical direction. A "wind-swept" appearance is avoided, and the results are completely natural. This operation has been embraced by  my patients and me, since there is typically only two weeks of down-time, and my results have been spectacular.

When upper eyelid skin is excessive, and obscuring a youthful upper eyelid crease, I will recommend upper Blepharoplasty (eyelid lift). This can be performed as an isolated procedure, or typically in combination with a Natural Lift.
